Patrick Matthews was born and raised in Manchester, England. He has studied at the Hochschule Der Kunst, Berlin, and the Henry Moore Centre For Sculptural Studies, Leeds University, England. Where he gained an Master of Arts degree in the history of sculpture. He now lives and works in Amsterdam.

Since the 1980's he has been creating interdisciplinary artworks as multimedia live performance and drawing-based installations. His work has been featured at many international arts festivals and galleries, and his drawings and installations are preserved and represented in video and imagery, at archives such as the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, England, and the Multimedial Arts Studio's, Contemporary Art Fund, Odzaci, Yugoslavia.
